KRALLICE - YEARS PAST MATTER UPDATE, DISTRO UPDATE, SHIRT RESTOCKS, DEAD WEIGHT LIVE STREAM FRIDAY, NEW WEBSITE NEXT WEEK

I've been off work this entire week which means I'm working full time on Gilead Media stuff. Been getting lots accomplished, but still a good amount to do over the course of the holiday weekend!

KRALLICE - YEARS PAST MATTER UPDATE

Alright, it's taken a while to get here, and I apologize for that. I needed to square away everything with the last batch of releases/represses before I could put this beast into production. But we're there now, and the time has almost come for pre-orders.

Years Past Matter will be presented as a gatefold 2LP, packaged in heavy-duty tip-on jackets (same as the last 3 Krallice records), and pressed on 180g black vinyl. No color vinyl.

The vinyl edition will feature a different front cover than the CD, which I'm pretty stoked about. Talking with the band about download codes in all copies and an exclusive shirt option for pre-orders. Not set in stone yet, but working towards it.

I expect test pressings and print work proofs to be approved by the first week of January. At that time, pre-orders will be launched. Announcements will be made here, on my new website (launching next week) and via the email update.

NEW WEBSITE NEXT WEEK
My website has needed a total overhaul for a long time, and that day has finally come. Or will be here shortly, anyway. My old friend Marty from Guerilla Digital has been working hard to get a brand new website up and running for me. We're almost there, I just have a bit more store content to move over and then we have some minor tweaks to make/things to iron out.
Everything about this new site is better. Easier to get information, easier to browse and use the store, easier for me to update, and has an integrated blog right on the page. This means the blogspot will no longer be updated after this post, except to set up a forwarding notification.

One great thing about the new site is going to be that it adapts to your screen size on the fly, whether it's mobile, tablet, or desktop. Below is a screenshot showing portrait and landscape orientation and how the menu changes to adapt on the iphone.

Look forward to the new store, I know I am. I've been spending the majority of this week getting everything ready and can't wait to roll it out!

That's all for now, talk soon!

FELL VOICES, ASH BORER TO PLAY ROADBURN, TOUR EUROPE. NEW FELL VOICES ALBUM.

In March 2011 the world saw the release of the Ash Borer/Fell Voices split LP. Both bands had a history together, going on an extended tours and even performing in side projects with each other. Two years later, they continue their history as they cross the ocean and take on a European tour from April 3rd to April 21st, with a very special performance at ROADBURN on April 20th.

As many folks know, Roadburn has become one of the world's largest metal festivals and this year's lineup is no different. Even Wisconsin punk legends DIE KREUZEN are making their way over!

For more information visit http://www.roadburn.com/roadburn-2013/. If you live in central Europe and are interested in booking a show for Ash Borer and Fell Voices please contact Daniel from Kill Town booking - killtowntourbookings@gmail.com.

We are also awfully excited to announce that early 2013 will see the release of a brand new full-length from FELL VOICES. These are their first new recordings in over two years and will be presented in North American by Gilead Media and Analog Worship, whom released the Fell Voices demo on vinyl. While our old friend Stefan at Vendetta records will handle the European version of the release.

This as of yet untitled album will be released as a gatefold 2LP in the US, 180g black vinyl with a very limited run of color vinyl. More details forthcoming, expected to be released by April 2013.

Until next time, my friends.

TEST PRESS SALE, NEW DISTRO STUFF/RESTOCKS, MUTILATION RITES TOUR DATES

This year has passed by far too quickly. Winter sits upon the frosted edge of each fallen leaf on these cold Wisconsin mornings, and I couldn't be more excited for snow to fall on this small town once again. Dead Weight has been keeping me busy, even after release. We've been accepted to fifteen film festivals thus far, and await responses to more that we've submitted to. Something beyond our wildest dreams, rest assured. John and I make every effort to attend each screening we can, and have made it to a large number of them. There is no greater joy than that of sharing your creation with people and making new friends.

First day of filming Dead Weight. April, 2011.

So here I sit, Saturday afternoon in Oshkosh, finally spending some time with the new Velnias vinyl after jamming the bandcamp page in my web browser at work. These days where I can relax for a while and focus on some writing are the kinds of days I wish would become more frequent. Every week that passes I'm trying to make decisions that push me in that direction instead of pushing me towards less creative commitments on the weekends.

There hasn't been too much going on behind the scenes with Gilead Media lately. September, and a good part of October, were so absurdly busy for me that I've really needed to let the dust settle and pay some bills. The Inter Arma - Destroyer CD and Krallice - Years Past Matter 2LP are just about ready to go, and I should have Fell Voices and Ash Borer shirts restocks shortly. In addition to two Loss shirts available in the store that I printed for their upcoming November tour.

TEST PRESSINGS FOR SALE
In the mean time I have posted a number of test pressings on ebay. I haven't sold off test pressings for a few months so please take a moment to see what's been posted. I'm not entirely sure when I'll have time to post more after these. I'm going to be focusing on selling off a good chunk of my personal record collection. I'm once again feeling the urge to refresh my collection here, a cycle that passes every few years. There is a list below of the test pressings I have for auction, and they can be bid upon here:

NEWSLETTER: INTER ARMA ANNOUNCEMENT! NEW SHIRTS + DISTRO! TOUR DATES!

Life has been more hectic than normal around here at Gilead Media HQ. Just when I'm absolutely certain things will slow down and I'll fall into a lull where I have time to play video games, or even just do my laundry, everything goes nuts again. I shouldn't complain, really. It's better than not having anything to do!

I must thank, sincerely, all those who have ordered over the past couple months... or ever really. But these last couple months have been awesome, and I'm glad they're so much interest in the new records. Every order for Mutilation Rites - Empyrean LPs and Barghest/False split LPs has shipped out, so keep your eyes on your mailbox, and see the picture below of my mail day this past Saturday. I hope the postal worker at the desk enjoyed their Saturday workout as much as I did!

Farewell, records! Enjoy your new homes!

Now that those are all out the door it's full steam ahead on some exciting new things. Including the new Krallice Years Past Matter gatefold 180g 2LP and a new CD release that I'm announcing in this very email! Get to it!

I. INTER ARMA - DESTROYER CDEP ANNOUNCED

If there's one thing I can count on, without fail, it is that any record Andy Low emails me about is worth a serious listen. In 2008 it was Thou that Andy turned me on to, now in 2012 he has opened my eyes to Richmond, VA's INTER ARMA.

Inter Arma were a band whose name I had seen around for the last couple years, with releases on Forcefield and Mirror Universe, but had never actually gotten around to listening to. After that fateful email from a friend, I knew I had to get in touch to see about working with them in any way possible.

That brings us to DESTROYER. Originally released as a 12" by Toxic Assets records earlier in 2012--and coming soon on CD from Gilead Media--DESTROYER is a furious EP that showcases an astonishing new level in Inter Arma's songwriting. This is not just the next step for them, but an evolutionary leap beyond their previous material.  The record is surprisingly dynamic and their precision is impressive, particularly when considering the stylistic range they cover. Whether they're expounding on some dark, creepy interlude, berating you with a relentless riff, or laying down a thoroughly awesome guitar solo, Inter Arma hit the mark like seasoned metal veterans. And the drums, my goodness, the drums! Heavy, complimentary rhythms and blackened blast, all is absolutely crushing. On DESTROYER all of the elements come together to form truly memorable songs from a band that knows how to incorporate melody without dulling their abrasive sound.

More details on the release of DESTROYER CDEP will be available soon from Gilead Media. Visit gileadmedia.blogspot.com for updates.

In the mean time you can listen to DESTROYER on bandcamp here: http://interarma.bandcamp.com/

Thrill Jockey has copies for folks who work at distros/stores and they're shipping now, so reach out to them for wholesale info: sales@thrilljockey.com

BARGHEST/FALSE + MUTILATION RITES - EMPYREAN PRE-ORDERS, UPDATED FALSE TOUR DATES

Pre-orders are now open on two records I'm very proud to release. These bands are all filled with individuals I am honored to call friends, and their bands are amongst the best in the American black metal scene today.

Barghest/False split LP - $15.00

Barghest and False come from drastically different worlds, and drastically different are their individual approaches to black metal. Barghest, from the swamps of Baton Rouge, LA, take the misanthropic "anti-human/anti-life" angle, delivering disgustingly abrasive, lo-fi metal. A lineup without bass, but full of unflinching aggression and thickness. False, from the frozen landscape of Minneapolis, MN, begin with a foundation of synth-tinged European black metal and compliment it with hypnotic atmosphere, creating intensely eerie music.

For all of their differences, they also share some key similarities. Each group released a debut album in 2011 with Gilead Media/Howling Mine, and both were met with overwhelmingly positive response from zines, blogs, and fans. Barghest and False also each contain an oppressive quality in their respective sounds. Believe it when I say this is not music for casual listening, in each case this is a psychological journey through a realm devoid of light or hope.

Barghest offer two tracks for the split. "Shifting Sands" is one of the first songs the band ever wrote, and has never before been available in a physical format. Although an older piece it still possesses the aesthetic Barghest solidified for themselves on their Untitled debut. "Inhuman Hatred" is a brand new song with an obvious death metal influence. It carries a greater sense of focus and purpose than the material from their full-length, without abandoning their unique style.

False have grown in an unbelievable way since their debut 12". Their single track on this split--"Heavy as a Church Tower"--clocks in at nearly 18 minutes, and stands as hard evidence that False are quickly becoming an undeniable force within American black metal. The ferocious intensity from their debut is amplified here, and paired with a more mature sense of mood and atmosphere. Their side of the split is very much False, evolved.

Released alongside Mirror Universe. Cover art by Bryan Proteau (Natvres Mortes Illvstration) and printed on heavy 24pt jackets. 24"x36" folded poster included. Printed inner sleeve. 800 pressed on 180g black vinyl.

Mutilation Rites- Empyrean gatefold LP - $16.00

In three short years Brooklyn's Mutilation Rites went from releasing a couple demos and EPs to unleashing Empyrean, one of the most gruesomely ferocious full length black metal LPs of the year.

The songs on Empyrean are astonishingly identifiable, they get stuck in your head immediately. This may be in large part due to the way Mutilation Rites utilize so many other elements of metal without losing focus of their goal. The backbone here is undoubtably black metal, but within you can hear aspects of grind, doom, crust, and captivating riffage that mesh perfectly and serve a greater dark purpose. As the shrieking, indistinguishable vocals lay over these songs it pulls the sound together into a perfect blend of filthy, precise misery.

Packaged in an old-style Stoughton tip-on jacket, single pocket. Black inner sleeves. 180g black vinyl. Artwork by Reuben Sawyer (Rainbath Visual). CD released by Prosthetic Records.

RAW VIDEO FOOTAGE FROM FEST

I spent a good part of this evening going through the raw footage from the Gilead Music Festival. I just got my hands on the hard drive from my friends who filmed. Very cool to relive much of that weekend. I'm sending discs off to the bands this week/next week with their own footage on it, for their own archives. If they approve, I will have my pal John edit some of the complete songs together to post online. That's up to each band individually, though, and I won't be posting anything without their permission.

NEW DISTRO ITEMS

Last time I updated the distro page I was fairly lazy about it and didn't take photos of all the new records. That's something I really enjoy doing, and I like to think people that order from me like that I have ACTUAL photos of the albums in my store. Well, consider that folly rectified! Photos have been added for almost all of the distro items, including all these great new goodies! Visit http://www.gileadmedia.net/store/distro.htm for listen links or to purchase any of these.

THRILL JOCKEY FIELD TRIP

Thrill Jockey HQ. Chicago. Awesome place. Dangerous selection of fantastic records. Sorry, bank account.

Friday morning my wife and I both took the day off from work for a drive to Chicago, delivering my initial stock to Thrill Jockey! It was a late night on Thursday, since I put off gathering up stock until around midnight or so. By the time I was done with everything (had to stuff a few records with patches/posters) it was near 4 am, woops. Two hours of sleep and we were off!

One of the great things I've missed about going on a trip is picking out CDs for the drive. Obviously things work a bit differently now, when you can take your entire music collection with you everywhere you go. To me, it feels like that sort of ruins some of the magic of going on a little trip for the day. Music selection can be such an important aspect of trip preparation, choosing the mood you want to set with the music you're taking along. Just plugging in your ipod feels so impersonal, sterile. After today I'm actually leaning towards foregoing the installation of the auxiliary input for the new car. I'd rather go back to picking out CDs for the drive, I never realized how much I enjoyed that until it was no longer routine.

The drive actually went quite well for leaving so early on a Friday. Not only were we taking a few hundred records to Chicago, but we were also transferring a few kittens from the over-capacity Oshkosh Area Humane Society to Wisconsin Humane in Milwaukee, where there is more room for companion critters. Much to my surprise the traffic in Milwaukee between 8:30 and 9:00 was non-existent, so that was cool. Dropped off kitties and got back to it, arriving in Chicago around 10:30 am. Not bad!

Milwaukee Ave., North, and Damen. One of the worst intersections in history.
How is there not a green arrow signal here?

Upon arrival we went straight to Wicker Park. Reckless Records and Wormhole Coffee, always crucial stops on Chicago trips. I had a small box of old vinyl I didn't feel like trying to sell on ebay, so that was nice to get rid of at Reckless. Picked up The Body & Braveyoung LP while Cari found Neko Case's Blacklisted for cheap on CD. Wormhole is my favorite coffee shop, without contest. I've been to plenty, and this one takes the cake. It may have been my initial visit, which was one of those moments where you're in the right place at the perfect time with exactly the person you want to be there with... and drinking the perfect cup. The weather was sort of wild while we were there, too. The skies grew terribly dark, wind picked up, and it began to rain a bit. Quite eerie for a Friday morning.

The stop at Thrill Jockey was a quick one. They were working and I was parked illegally. Everyone helped unload the 20 or so boxes I had loaded into the car and then Mr. Erik Keldsen helped me locate an irresponsible amount of records I was looking for.

Thanks to Erik for many great suggestions. Can't wait to dig my teeth into these this weekend!

We left right around 1:00 pm since we had to get back to Oshkosh in time for some work responsibilities Cari had. The traffic was moderately crappy on our way out of Chicago, but I didn't really care since the car was empty and I had this fantastic Painted Cave CS playing that I had just bought. It put Cari to sleep almost immediately, and subsequently kept me relaxed while driving in bumper to bumper traffic on 90/94.

We reserved just enough time to stop in Milwaukee and grab some actual food from Palomino, realizing we hadn't eaten all day. This place is, without a doubt, my favorite place to eat. Tons of vegan food, and good. All seitan toffalo wings and vegan country fried steak with mashed potatoes. Heavenly, perfection. I wasn't able to eat the country fried steak until I got home, but Cari got to eat in the car a bit so that was good. We both went to town on those toffalo wings. Incredible!

We got home just in time for Cari's work obligations. I ate, took out the dog, and proceeded to immediately fall asleep on the couch. Where I remained for about nine hours. Sorry, back!

In the end, this trip managed to reaffirm/amplify all of the feelings I had during my initial visit to the Thrill Jockey offices a few months ago. That they are a group of committed individuals that sincerely love music. I'm doubtful there's a better home to distribute Gilead Media releases at this point. After spending a few years feeling out of place with other distributors, this feels right. And to think, this was all a result of that big blog post I made months ago, the one about how I had lost a bunch of money as a result of my old distributor shutting down. Fitting how that poor turn of events resulted in a great new relationship. I'm confident when I say that Gilead Media, although still recovering, is in a better place than it's ever been. Between the success of the music festival, and this new relationship, there is a lot to be happy about.

Time for Saturday morning mail order and farmer's market!

THRILL JOCKEY TO DISTRIBUTE GILEAD MEDIA

Time to announce something that has been in the works for a few months, and that I'm quite excited about, indeed!

A big news bit for those that work at stores/distros/etc. Thrill Jockey Records will exclusively distribute Gilead Media titles going forward. My mailorder store will remain with me, of course, but I'm awful at staying on top of wholesale orders, so this is going to work out better for everyone. On top of that, the people at Thrill Jockey have been very supportive of the label for the past couple years, and even put up with me talking their ears off when I went to hang out at their warehouse, so that's cool.

On top of that, I'm going to be distributed alongside a very small, but high quality group of labels. SIGE Records, Handmade Birds, Immune Recordings, Three Lobed Recordings... and another label or two I can't remember off the top of my head. I can't wait to be in their company.

In addition to all of the catalog stuff I still have in print, they'll also be selling the remaining copies of the Hell/Thou split 7" and Mutilation Rites I Am Legion 12" for the July street date. Then Barghest/False split LP and Mutilation Rites Empyrean LP for August. And the Krallice s/t 2LP repress somewhere in there, too!

Get in touch with Erik at Thrill Jockey if you're not already ordering from them. You'll be glad, he rules.

I have also updated my catch-all blog post with this report, where I'm collecting Fest reviews, accounts, and photo album links. To view past links to other accounts check out the blog post:

Also, forgot to mention in the intro (and I'm too lazy to re-write it at the moment) that this past weekend I had the pleasure of spending four days in Philadelphia. John and I were there promoting Dead Weight at Wizard World Philly/Philly Comic Con. It was my first trip to this fine city, and I must admit that I was entirely won over by the city's charm and the folks I met. Not to mention some unbelievable vegan food (Hip City Veg!!!) and amazing architecture (see below). I must extend an immense amount of gratitude to Mr. James and Ms. Kira. Our booth at the Con was next to Jim's (look at his art, now - http://jamesboyle-art.tumblr.com/ ), and boy are we glad. We spent Friday and Saturday night hanging out with the two of 'em, and couldn't have come across two better people to spend our time with. I don't do bars, I just don't. And I spent a good three hours hanging out at Tattooed Mom on South street, walking back to the hotel at 1:30 AM. That's not something I do, so believe me when I say I must've been in love with the city at that point.

I became obsessed with this building.
It sat at the end of Cuthbert st, along 17th.
Reminds me of a certain tower I know of.

Couldn't stop taking pictures of this place.

On the seventeen hour drive to Philadelphia we stopped in Monroevilly, just outside Pittsburgh, to meet up with Brain Krasman from Meat Mead Metal. That ruled, it was great to finally meet this person I've been emailing with since 2008. Brian's been a great supporter of the label ever since he first heard Thou's Tyrant. Although our meeting was brief, I was very happy about it. After that John and I shot over to the Monroeville mall, where a great deal of Romero's Dawn Of The Dead was filmed. A security guard was kind enough to give us our own little guided tour. Very awesome to walk down these hallways I've seen on the screen filled with zombies.

John in a service hallway at the Monroeville Mall that
is featured in the film.

That's all for this week. I've been in front of the computer too long as it is. Order up some records, click on links in this email. You'll be glad you did.

FEST MERCH, ASH BORER/FELL VOICES SPLIT LP, DISTRO UPDATE

Things have been fairly insane since the music festival. Attempting to get caught up on a lot of things that were put on the back burner while preparing for that big weekend. Just got around to updating the online store today with a bunch of distro stuff I've been sitting on. In addition to that I'm also taking orders for the Hell/Thou split 7", Ash Borer/Fell Voices split 180g LP repress and shirts & hoodies from the Gilead Media Music Festival!

Remember, orders placed within the US are only charged $3.75 for shipping regardless of how much you order!

HELL/THOU - RESURRECTION BAY SPLIT 7"
At the music festival we made available for sale the Hell/Thou - Resurrection Bay split 7". These have been shipping out, and are actually running low already, since the fest. I don't think I've covered it in an email update, though, so here you go! Each band presents one new song, each crafted in their respective unique styles of doom/sludge. Embossed inside & outside folding sleeve, embossed obi strip, all printed white on white. White vinyl, plain white labels. 1000 pressed and co-released with Pesanta Urfolk. Act fast, there are only about 80 left for mailorder. After that I'll have a batch I'm sending to a new distributor I'll be working with. Order at www.gileadmedia.net/store. This is not available for direct wholesale. Sorry.

ASH BORER/FELL VOICES - SPLIT LP REPRESS
The last repress of the Ash Borer/Fell Voices split LP absolutely flew off the shelves. I couldn't even keep them in stock. Another batch is one the way to me now, along with the False untitled 12" repress. There are 300 AB/FV records in this pressing, still all on 180g black. Essentially no difference from the last couple batches! Head over to www.gileadmedia.net/store to order!

GILEAD MEDIA MUSIC FESTIVAL MERCH
We sold out of most shirt and hoodie sizes before the first day of the fest was even over with. On top of that, many people that couldn't make it asked if leftovers would be available to purchase afterwards. Well, there weren't leftovers obviously, but I did whip up a new batch of shirts and hoodies, which can be purchased at www.gileadmedia.net/store/merch.htm. All tshirts are printed on Canvas brand 100% cotton ringspun garments. Light grey ink on heather dark grey. All hoodies are printed on Independent Trading Co. zip hoodies, cotton/poly blend, dark grey ink on black. Artwork by Bryan Proteau of Natvres Mortes Illvstration.
