Get Rad "I Can Always Live" CD/LP, Krallice news, Many freakin' Thou releases for sale!

We're finally ready to start selling some Thou releases, some new, some sorta new, some made re-newed, and some I wish I could sellbut I can't just yet. But before we get down to that, I have some really freakin' exciting news to report...

GET RAD TO RELEASE "I CAN ALWAYS LIVE" CD/LP WITH GILEAD MEDIA & HYPERREALIST!

You know, I've been a huge fanboy for everything Dave Rudnik (Bass - Get Rad, other stuff in Seven Days of Samsara, High on Crime, Kungfu Rick, and a ton of other righteous bands) since I started getting into hardcore. In addition, I was always a huge Since by Man fan (Kevin, vocals for Get Rad played guitar for SBM). So naturally when I first heard about Get Rad I was really excited to see what it was all about. I was never let down. Every release reveals more and more how much can be awesome and righteous in hardcore. Get Rad are about as good as it gets. And this past weekend's Hunger Task Force benefit show in Milwaukee is as good as evidence as anyone could've asked for. It was easily the most fun I've had at a hardcore show in years, possibly ever. I can't even describe how great it felt to see 4 really talented local bands, a packed venue full of kids having fun, and all headlined by Get Rad.

Anyway, I ramble. When Dave proposed the idea of Gilead working with Hyperrealist to release the new Get Rad full length, I Can Always Live, how the hell could I possibly even say no to that. There was no decision to be made, quite frankly. It had to happen. Not only because of my aforementioned love for the band, but because I've come to find a great friend in Pat who runs Hyperrealist, and I've really just been looking for a good reason to work on a record with him. Just perfect.

So, in early 2010 we will present what I really strongly feel is one of the best hardcore records I've heard in years. Get Rad capture an energy and excitement that I've come to think was lost in hardcore. I am elated to be involved in the process of releasing the record.

"I Can Always Live" will be presented in CD and Gatefold LP format. Get stoked, stay rad.

KRALLICE "DIMENSIONAL BLEEDTHROUGH" 2XLP PROGRESS

A couple days ago Nick (bass/vocals - Krallice) sent me this fun little photograph showing the progress they're making re-creating the original art for "Dimensional Bleedthrough" to fit the gatefold jacket. I'm really excited to see this all finished up and spread across the outside of a gatefold. I just thought it would be fun to pass along this photo for your viewing pleasure. As Nick agreed, it's cool for people to see the process.

I have the audio master here, and everything should be ready to begin production over the next couple weeks. As things with the art come to a close. Get excited!

NEW ITEMS
The Thou/Leech Split Lp still isn't ready. I haven't approved test pressings and I dislike pre-orders enough as it is, let alone when tests haven't been approved. Sorry for the delay, it will probably be a couple weeks yet on those.

THOU/HAARP SPLIT 7" - $5.00
BUY/LISTEN - http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=93
Two outstanding New Orleans bands face of on this epic split 7". Thou present their track "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos," which is one of their much slower/sludgier songs, but contains what may be one of my favorite riffs they've written.

Haarp bring us some intense sludgy metal. I hadn't heard much of them before, but great songs, indeed. If you're a fan of Thou then you're likely to enjoy Haarp. They are different, but great sludge riffage is common to both bands

THOU/MOHORAM ATTA SPLIT LP - $11.00
BUY/LISTEN - http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=91
Released by Halo of Flies & Feast of Tentacles, this split contains 4 songs from Thou, including their Minor Threat cover "Screamin' at a Wall." If you haven't heard their cover of this song, it rules.

The split side of the record brings us Mohoram Atta, whom I hadn't heard before, but are fairly awesome. A great mix between fast, thrashy pissed off hardcore and sludging riffage. They site His Hero is Gone, Cursed and "Fuckin Black Metal" amongst their influences, that about sums it up. Jam this record!

THOU - TYRANT CD (REPRESS) - $8.00
BUY/LISTEN - http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=32
THESE ARE NOT IN-HOUSE YET, BUT SHOULD ARRIVE OVER THE NEXT WEEK. IF YOU ORDER ANY OF THE OTHER LIMITED QUANTITY ITEMS WE HAVE AVAILABLE ALONGSIDE THIS CD THEN YOUR ENTIRE ORDER WILL BE HELD UNTIL EVERYTHING CAN SHIP TOGETHER!

"Tyrant" is the astonishing debut album from New Orleans doom/sludge songsmiths, Thou. While retaining an incredible sense of melodic & dynamic songwriting, Thou have unleashed one of the heaviest and darkest albums to be unveiled during the recent influx of doom & sludge. Powerful lyrics delivered with scathing vocals seal the deal, Thou have proven their value in a time when slow & heavy bands are a dime a dozen. This is only the beginning.

HEY LOOK, I WROTE STUFF

Along with some other local horror enthusiasts I assist in running a little part-time website called Oshkoshhorror.com. We mainly host a monthly free horror movie we call "House of Horrors" at the local comic book shop known as House of Heroes. But occasionally we force our opinions on people through movie reviews, and organize other fun events like this past years first annual zombie walk.

I finally got around to writing my first couple reviews. I'm no professional writer, but I think they turned out pretty good, check em out. And if you're interested in joining in on some horror-culture related conversation, then feel free to join our forum. Even though it's very Wisconsin-centric, we'd love to have some other individuals join in our discussions.

Oshkoshhorror.com reviews
I wrote a review for Left 4 Dead 2 for PC, and a review for the English and Spanish versions of Dracula that were filmed simultaneously in 1931. Enjoy!

That's all I have for this week. Let me know if you have questions on any records, and keep your eyes/ears peeled for more information on coming records soon!

This past weekend

The response on catnip toys by Heart Felt Wool was overwhelming. My wife spent most of the day Saturday sewing little Cthulhus...

And while she worked on that, I listened to the THOU/LEECH test pressings (awesome!) and assembled the final 200 black "Retaliation" 12"s.

Overall a good weekend. Got a lot of work done and shipped out all pending mailorder today. Fell pretty far behind on that, yikes. But everything is on the way right now! Enjoy your cat toys and records, people. Thank you!

Thou full-page ad in the newest Decibel!

I just got my issue of Decibel (Baroness on cover!) which contains the great full-page ad for four Thou releases I'm working on over the next couple months. Pretty excited on how it turned out. I figured with as all the ads through Decibel that are dark with a lot of hectic design elements, that minimal and bright would catch more attention! I hope so, advertising is expensive.

Thursday Night - Three hours of sleep

Thursday was a pretty long day at Gilead HQ.

For a few hours myself and friend Dale assembled the "Thrive & Decay" 7"s (available for order now: http://gileadmedia.net/store/product_info.php?products_id=80) - we're about half way done on those, looking to finish the rest up on Tuesday perhaps? All copies have shipped to the bands and to my retail distributor, the Independent Label Collective, all mailorder will be shipped by Wednesday this week! If you work at a store or want to buy your copy from a store it will be available as an October 13th release through the Indie Label Collective.

After that I was up all night cutting posters for the "Retaliation of the Immutable Force of Nature" 12". The final pressing arrived a week and a half ago and I just have not had time to cut the paper and screen print them. So, from about 11-2 I spent some time with netflix, the roll
of butcher paper I'm using for the posters, and my fancy new cutting mat, and went to town cutting up those posters.

After that It was time for a break, busted out a vegan boca burger and some french fries, a great meal. I like Ketchup!

Post-meal consisted of a whole lot of fabric measuring and cutting for the "Human Annihilation" patches, and then cutting out button images for the 5000 piece rush button order we have to finish. Fun times all around, sleep is for the weak!

Thou/Black September Split 7" ready for orders!

I am pleased to announce that I'm now taking orders for the Black September/Thou Split 7"

Check out the blurb from the webstore:
Thrive & Decay was originally released as a cooperative effort between six labels in 2008, limited to 1000 copies on black vinyl. Having sold out over the course of a few short months, Gilead stepped up to repress this epic pairing of songs with brand new artwork, remastered audio, and on clear red vinyl. Again limited to 1000 copies.

This split is not only a split between two great bands from two very different parts of the US, it's an astonishing showing of power by two very young bands. Black September, Chicago, IL, offer “Under The Rising,” a diverse 6 minutes of death metal/thrash with touches of dooming riffage. THOU, Baton Rouge, LA, unveil one of their most politically charged and crushingly heavy sludge tunes thus far, “Smoke Pigs.” Complete with the sample excluded from the first pressing. The first time I heard the split I was blown away by the vitality and passion put into both songs. “Smoke Pigs” and “Under the Rising” really compliment each other despite the fact that they're sonically very different.

- Ltd to 1000 copies on clear red vinyl

- Each copy includes a free download of the entire split

- Includes the "Talk to Cops" poster coinciding with the Smoke Pigs song, originally excluded from the first pressing

Images are fun, too!

Thou/Black September Poster printing fiesta

About two hours of work to print 340 sheets, 1020 posters, for the Thou/Black September split 7". Printing went surprisingly well, almost every sheet turned out great. I will be posting these for orders later today.

Pictured below is a photo of one of the rooms I used for drying (and part of a second room). It was quite a sight to see three large rooms with these covering the floor. When I print the Thou/Haarp split posters later this week I'll post more extensive photos. That will be a print run of 1000. Fun times, sore thumb & triceps. Anyone want to make a buck helping out?

Zombunny tshirts are here!

First off, thank you to all those that have ordered the Zombunny t-shirts thus far! If you were one of those individuals then your order has shipped and should be coming through soon!

The men's shirts are printed on Organic American Apparel Natural colored tees with water-based brown ink for maximum possible earth friendliness!

The women's tees are printed on standard American Apparel women's cut natural colored shirts, also with water-based ink!

Not only is water-based great for the environment, but it gives the print on the shirt a very soft touch. Actually, you can't feel it at all. Very classy!

Finally, the best part about these is I printed them all myself, so each one has a little extra love in the print!

You can order one now for just $10 on the men's tee and $12 on the women's tee. You are not going to beat that price for made in the usa shirts printed with water-based inks!

Thou/Black September test pressings

First blog post eh? Cool.

Got in the test pressings for the Thou/Black September split 7" the other day but have not had time to sit down there and jam it out yet. In addition to this, their sudden arrival reminded me that I had not yet ordered the 7" labels... woops. Cranked that out tonight!

In other Gilead news, I met with the printer today to get some quotes on the 7" jacket and Tyrant CD repress booklet. The Oshkosh/Fox Valley area has a large printing industry, and it only makes sense for me to get those things printed locally, right? Hoping their prices are comparable to my old sources.

We're almost entirely re-working the Tyrant CD booklet, fixing typos, reformatting text etc etc. Also printing it on a thicker stock with matte finish... party time!

In other Thou news, I finished creating the locked groove samples for the Thou/Leech split. Grim stuff! Can't wait to get that record ironed out, finally. It's going to be a fun one.

In addition to all this, I'll be screen printing a number of inserts for Thou releases coming up:

Thou/Haarp split release poster insert
Thou/Leech split posters and patches
Thou/Black September split inserts

Lots of work to do all around!

This week I totally busted the shit out of my glasses somehow. I was just cleaning a lens and the cheap-ass italian frames broke. The lady at the optometrist thought taping them would be cool... thanks, lady.

So, at the grocery store I decide to get some super glue. Well, turns out the super glue fumes are eye irritants. So now instead of having taped glasses I can't wear em at all, smooth move, me!

Appointment Aug 31 for new Rx and frames. Less 3-dimensional vision until then.
