Herds is an outstanding hardcore band from Milwaukee, WI. This band is freaking great and I really can't praise them enough/urge you strongly enough to check it out... The description from Fashionable Idiots pretty much says it all...

The Mercury Program have sort of been out of the picture for a while, but their ability to blend outstanding instrumental "post-rock" or whatever people call it these days is still unrivaled. They've always been a cut above the rest when it comes to writing beautiful music, this is no exception. Vinyl released by Lovitt records, and it rules.

LP JACKET NOTEBOOKS - $10.00

Our good friend Alicia is the person behind a small home-run crafting operation called Let's Be Frank. Recently she started making notebooks using old LP jackets for the covers. As soon as I heard about these I knew I had to put some up for sale in the store.
These are all made using old LP jackets, so no good record is wasted to make this. In fact most of the records used have vinyl that is unplayable or otherwise wrecked, so really you're keeping the landfill a little less empty!
Now, since these are legitimate vintage jackets, they're not always in the best shape prior to shipping. None of them have tears or anything like that, by there may be a dinged corner here and there.
Check out some photos. Since these are one of a kind I'm just posting it as a buy-and-see-what-you-get. I'll pull down pictures as they sell, so the ones listed in the photos will always be the ones available.

North is a great young band from AZ that falls into the post-metal sort of genre. Before you write them off as just another pretty heavy band with lots of effects, understand, they do it VERY well. They craft these songs with the skill of seasoned veterans. If you're into the Pelican meets Explosions in the Sky sort of thing, do yourself a favor and check out this record. LP+CD combo wins!

On this record North progress beyond simply the instrumental atmospheric jams and add an element that is entirely new for them, vocals. When I heard their first record, I was in love.. and was entirely unsure how I would feel about the band with vocals, but it really does work wonderfully. Vocal tracks are not too far out front, so they ad a layer to music without overpowering it. Sort of like Rosetta if they were a LOT more diverse, both musically and vocally. What You Were sees North at their most progressive, writing wonderful songs that certainly earned them a spot as one of Decibel Magazines top 40 records of 2009.

This is the first release from my good friends at Cavity Records, and oh, what an outstanding first release it is! I'll tell you right now that I feel like the post-rock sort of genre is really played out and doesn't have a lot to offer, and that's one reason I avoided checking out this band. Turns out "Old Stories" is outstanding and DOES have something to offer. Although Giants utilize a way of playing that is proven and well-developed in an independent music community, they add their own skill and flavor and create songs that are something different and special. Strongly suggested!

Nanda Devi are a band from Portland that specialize in the Cult of Luna/Rosetta school of metal and do it very well for being a group of young men. Slow, atmospheric jams that are sure you have you nodding along.
